Santa's Village

We are going to re-do the Kidstop annual Christmas store.  This year we are setting it up somewhat like the Santa’s Village/Workshop you might remember from Festival of Trees.  Each child will be “escorted” to the workshop where they can select items to give as gifts to family members.  After they make their selection they will get assistance “wrapping” their gift in a gift bag.  The store will take place on Monday and Tuesday, December 11th and 12th from 3 – 5 pm in the multipurpose room.

Help is needed in two ways:

  1.  Volunteers to escort kids through the workshop or assist with “wrapping”
  2. Donations of new or gently used items that could be gifts for all ages (brothers, sisters, moms, and dads)  Suggested items include stuffed animals, small toys, candles, knick-knacks, jewelry and other accessories, bags, hats, gloves, scarves, journals, puzzles, small household items, etc. We are often short of items appropriate for the dads.

If you have donations, please leave them in the office marked Lana/Kidstop Store.  If you are available to help at the store, please get a message me.

Thank you!

Service of Remembrance

Service of Remembrance

There will be a special Service of Remembrance in the church chapel on Sunday, December 10 at 2 PM.  This service is for those who have recently experienced the loss of a loved one, illness or disability, financial loss, etc. and who need the peace and assurance provided through a special tie with their Lord.  This Service is to strengthen our faith and love in the midst of our worry and grief.  Each family will be asked to light a candle as a way of inviting the light of Jesus Christ to push away the darkness and strengthen them in their  loneliness.  We encourage all to attend and to invite those they know in their family and neighborhood who are facing loss and grief during this Holy Season.

All are invited.

Puerto Rico Mission Trip Informational Meeting

FREE PIZZA! This Sunday, right after the 11:00 service, there will be a mission trip informational meeting with our liaison to Praying Pelican, Kevin. At this meeting, you will be able to ask all the questions that Andrea and I have been unable to answer and hopefully Kevin will be able to. At the very least, he can give us a better answer than we can! Again, this meeting is at noon (or whenever the 11 am service is over) THIS SUNDAY. Did I mention there would be pizza, because there is going to be pizza! And pictures of the island and examples of the things we will be doing on this trip.  If you have questions about the meeting, please email Curtis (curtis86alan@gmail.com)  or Pastor Andrea johnsona@sfumc.org).

Spaghetti Dinner and Tree Lighting Ceremony

When you are homeless in Sioux Falls, your most immediate worry is where your next meal will come from.  There are several hundred homeless men, women, and children in Sioux Falls.  Most stay in city shelters. Others stay on the street.  One of their key concerns is finding enough food or a hot, nutritious meal to make it through the day.

Join us as we open our doors to anyone who is hungry and in need of a nutritious meal and remember all we are thankful for as we prepare to celebrate the birth of our Savior.  There will be carols under the tree as it is lit for the holiday season on Minnesota Ave.
